{"id":2172,"date":"2019-12-22T16:07:28","date_gmt":"2019-12-22T16:07:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.georgecaird.co.uk\/?p=2172"},"modified":"2019-12-22T16:32:10","modified_gmt":"2019-12-22T16:32:10","slug":"nicholas-daniel-at-oxford-chamber-music-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.georgecaird.co.uk\/index.php\/nicholas-daniel-at-oxford-chamber-music-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Nicholas Daniel at Oxford Chamber Music Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 1 December my second concert as President of Oxford Chamber Music Society featured my old friend Nick Daniel playing oboe quartets with his Britten Oboe Quartet colleagues, Jacqueline Shave (violin), Caroline Dearnley (viola) and Clare Finnimore (cello). The concert was a real treat with great performances of Oliver Knussen&#8217;s <em>Cantata<\/em> and Elizabeth Lutyens&#8217; <em>Driving Out the Death.<\/em> Nick&#8217;s beautiful oboe playing throughout was matched by his cor anglais playing Mozart&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Ave Verum Corpus.<\/em> The concert began with Moeran&#8217;s Oboe <em>Phantasy, <\/em>a favourite of ours and of course they ended with the great Mozart F major Quartet &#8211; a masterful account by Nick and colleagues. Nick is so good at introducing his concerts &#8211; informative, witty and really communicating with his audience.
