Framed by songs from Schubert&#8217;s <em>Die Sch\u00f6ne M\u00fcllerin <\/em>in English translations by Jeremy Sams, the programme included songs by George Butterworth (<em>Loveliest of Trees<\/em>), Joan Trimble (<em>Green Rain<\/em>), Ralph Vaughan Williams (<em>The Vagabond, The Water Mill, Silent Noon<\/em>), Ina Boyle (<em>A Song of Enchantment<\/em>), Gerald Finzi (<em>Overlooking the River<\/em>,<em> He Abjures Love<\/em>), Rebecca Clarke (<em>Down by the Sally Gardens<\/em>), Michael Head (<em>Tewkesbury Road<\/em>), Roger Quilter (<em>Brown is my Love<\/em>, <em>By a Fountainside<\/em>), John Ireland (<em>We&#8217;ll to the Woods No More), <\/em>Herbert Howells (<em>The Sorrow of Love<\/em>) and Benjamin Britten (<em>O Waly Waly<\/em>). A treasure chest of songs received to great applause by a very large audience. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:12px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>This annual concert commemorates the great English cellist Jacqueline du Pr\u00e9 (1945 &#8211; 1989) whose career and life were so cruelly cut short. The Royal Society of Musicans as the oldest UK musical charity honours her memory and provides essential financial support and advice to all professional musicians who can no longer work due to accident, illness, stress or anxiety.
